KERNERSVILLE, N.C. --The Pitt men's and women's cross country teams competed in their first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Friday morning at Beeson Park in Kernersville, N.C. Cullen Davis was Pitt's top men's finisher with a 61st place performance as he led the men's squad to a 12th place team finish. Hilary Boxheimer led the Pitt women's squad with a 69th place run as Pitt placed 13th in the women's team competition.
Davis finished the 8k course in 25:26.4 and teammate Rich Addison crossed the line right behind him with a 25:30.8 time to finish 63rd. Rounding out the top five finishers for the Panthers' men's squad were Michael Runco (92nd in 26:19.6), Luke Swomley (102nd, 26:39.2) and Chris Montgomery (103rd, 26:41.4).
With 64 total points, Syracuse claimed the men's team title as it placed seven runners among the field's top-25 finishers. North Carolina (84 points), Notre Dame (105) and Virginia (108) placed second, third and fourth respectively.
On the women's side, Boxheimer was followed by Rachel Brown, who finished the 6k course in 79th place with a time of 22:18.1. Morgan Perry ran a 22:33.6 time for 90th place, Deanndra Adams finished 109th in 23:02.9 and Alexandra Cady contributed a 23:08.5 run for 112th place. Upon entering the race, the Pitt women's squad ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Florida State claimed the women's team championship as it placed three runners in the field's top-10 finishers and earned 52 total points. Virginia finished in second place, Syracuse third and Notre Dame fourth.
Wake Forest served as host for the event.
Pitt is back in action at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Bethlehem, Pa. on November 15.
