Women's Cross Country Places 31st at Pre-NCAA Championship Meet

Freshman Maureen McCandless was the top Panther finisher.

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh women's cross country was up against tough competition this past weekend at the Pre-NCAA Championship meet in Greenville, S.C., finishing the race in 31st place.

Leading the way for the Panthers was freshman Maureen McCandless (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who finished 91st with a time of 22:48. Senior Amanda Schmidt (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) crossed the finish line in 101st place in 22:53, while senior Elizabeth Rocks (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) placed 176th with a time of 23:57.

Pittsburgh has two weeks off before it travels to the Big East Championship on Friday, Oct. 26. The conference championship will be held in Van Cortland Park, N.Y.
