Pittsburgh Cross Country Teams Complete Season at the Big East Championships

The women's team placed 10th while the men's team finished 12th.
PITTSBURGH
—The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams concluded their 2002 campaigns this past weekend at the Big East Championships, which were held in Boston, Mass. The men’s team finished 12th while the women’s squad placed 10th.
Dan Hull (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) paced the men’s team with a 42nd-place finish (25:43). Jeryl Wilborn (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) finished 59th in 26:11, while Nick Westernman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) placed 63rd with a time of 26:18. Mike Diano (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), placing 68th, and Andrew Zang (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), finishing 77th, rounded out Pittsburgh’s scoring.
As she has done all season, Maureen McCandless (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) led the way for the women’s team with a 24th-place finish in 21:34. Rachel Rothe (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) was the next Panther to cross the finish line, racing to a 50th-place finish in 22:59. Kelly O’Connell (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Nicole Angstadt (Kutztown, Pa./Fleetwood) and Dawn Hilgert (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster) placed 54th, 72nd and 76th, respectively, to complete Pittsburgh’s scoring.
