Pittsburgh Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Regional Championships

The women's team finished 10th, while the men's squad placed 17th.

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams concluded thier season when they competed Saturday at the NCAA Regional Championships in Lock Haven, Pa. The women’s team placed 10th overall, while the men finished 17th.

            Junior Maureen McCandless (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) finished strong with a 13th place finish in 21:06. The next Panther to cross the finish line was junior Lauren Shaffer (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny), who placed 41st running a time of 21:56.

            For the third time this season, the men’s squad was led by freshman Eric Fleming (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) who finished 79th with a time of 32:30. Senior Mike Diano (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) was not far behind running 32:35 and placing 84th.

            The Panthers did not qualify to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Indoor track and field teams begin competing on November 21 at the Annual Blue and Gold Meet.
