Pitt Baseball 2013 Season Preview

Panthers open 2013 season on Friday at Wichita State

2013: Became Pitt's all-time leader in appearances during the 2013 campaign...pitched in seven games with three starts...earned a win against Youngstown State after going 6.0 innings allowing only two hits and striking out four...struck out two vs. Rutgers.

2012: Finished the season with a 4-1 record as a starter, pitching at least five innings in each of his five starts...pitched in 16 games as a reliever, tying for the second most relief appearances on the team...posted a 4.07 ERA with 39 strikeouts and just 17 walks in 21 total appearances...held the opposition to a .277 batting average, the fifth best mark on the staff...his 55.1 innings of work totaled for the fourth most on the team...struck out a career-high seven batters in a game in which he allowed just two hits and zero runs against Youngstown State on May 15...pitched 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen against nationally-ranked Louisville on May 19...put together three consecutive winning decisions against Ohio (May 1), Akron (May 8), and Youngstown State (May 15) as a starting pitcher.

2011: Finished second on the team with a 2.81 ERA...posted a 4-3 record with 57.2 innings pitched...tied for second on the team with 55 strikeouts...led the team with five saves.

2010: Earned a 0.00 ERA for his first four relief appearances...was 2-0 on the season with a 4.34 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched...pitched 7.0 innings against West Virginia on April 25 for his first career win...gave up just one run in 7.0 innings against Cincinnati on May 16...gave up no runs in six of his 12 relief appearances.

High School: Caravella led his team to the Group 3 state championship his junior year and state sectionals his senior year...made all-county, All-Group 3 and all-league teams his sophomore, junior and senior seasons...recorded 92 strikeouts in 39 games for his career...the fourth most winning pitcher in his school's history...played on the New Jersey Twins from 2006-2008 and the South Florida Bandits in 2009.
