Named to the All-Big East Second Team for the second straight season...posted the team's lowest ERA (2.73) for the second time in his career...finished the season with an 8-3 record...the eight wins were the most on the team...struck out five players and gave up five hits in eight innings of work against Youngstown State on March 19...tallied 62 strikeouts in 102.1 innings, the most on the team...named the Big East Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 16.
Matt Iannazzo recorded the team's lowest ERA as a starter at 3.76... finished the year 11-2 in his 13 starts...gave up less than four runs in both of his complete game wins over Fordham and Connecticut...won six straight from April 10-May 15... went 7.2 innings and gave up just four runs to keep the season alive against Cincinnati on May 27 in the second round of the Big East Championship...was named to the All-Big East and the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region Second Teams.
Matt Iannazzo played in 11 games for the Panthers, starting in five and earning a 2-3 record...compiled an incredible strikeout to walk ratio of 3.3 to 1 (43 strikeouts and 13 walks)...started and pitched six solid innings against cross-town rival Duquesne, allowing just four hits while striking out nine batters...worked seven innings against St. Joseph's in a 17-5 Panther victory on March 9...pitched 46.0 total innings in 2009, striking out 15 batters looking.
As a member of the Norwalk High School baseball team Iannazzo posted a career record of 12-11 with 11 saves, a 1.90 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 155 innings pitched...in his junior year he had a record of 5-2 and helped his team to a 21-4 record and a FCIAC Championship...was a member of the Bayside Yankees in 2007 and 2008...part of the 2007 Premier Baseball National Champions...pitched a complete game to win the championship game...also was the NABF National Champions...in the tournament he pitched 10 innings, gave up two hits, zero runs and zero earned runs...through 2006-2008 was named to the all-area and All-FCIAC team...in 2008, Iannazzo received many honors including, CHSCA all-state, New Haven Register all-state, Connecticut Post second team all-state, Under Armour Pre-Season All-America, team captain and team MVP...competed in two other sports, basketball and football...in football he was All-FCIAC in 2007...and in basketball, he was the captain in 2007 and 2008...in 2007 he was awarded National Latin Exam Cum Laude.
