2016: Appeared in eight games out of the bullpen in his redshirt sophomore season … went 0-3 on the year with a 9.39 ERA … recorded seven strikeouts with a season-best two K’s against both New Orleans (March 4) and Miami (FL) (May 13) … allowed eight earned runs off of 10 hits and six walks … made his season debut against Ohio State on Feb. 20 … pitched 1.0 innings at Grambling State on Feb. 27, allowing one run off of three hits and recording a strikeout … tossed an inning in relief at New Orleans on March 4 and March 5 … appeared in his first ACC action at North Carolina on March 11 … went 1.0 inning, allowing one run off of two hits … tossed 2.1 innings at Miami (FL) on May 13 and 1.1 innings at Miami (FL) on May 15 to conclude the season.

High School: Mitchell is a left-handed pitcher from Ridgway, Pennsylvania. In the spring Josh played for Mark Morelli at Ridgway High School in Ridgway and in the fall he played for Fred Albert with the Allegheny Pirates. Josh was selected to the First Team All-District in both his sophomore and junior years at Ridgway and to the American Legion Region 8 All-Tournament Team in 2012. He was also ranked as the number one pitcher by the Tri-County Sunday in 2012 with an ERA of 1.98 recording 100 strikeouts. Josh also handled the bat well batting .530 with six home runs and 50 RBI. For his efforts he was also named to the First Team All-District as an outfielder along with his First Team pitching nod.
