David Kaye was a key component for the Panther pitching staff in 2009, starting 11 games and making a total of 17 appearances...was third on the team in both innings pitched with 73.2 and in strikeouts with 44...completed an incredible outing on March 10 with a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out seven batters against SIU Edwardsville...posted an ERA of 5.74...tossed seven and one-third strong innings against Louisville giving up one run and five hits on April 11.
Kaye led the pitching staff with 23 appearances last season for the Panthers as a true freshman...held opposing batters to a team leading .227 batting average...led the team with a 2.52 ERA...went five innings not allowing a hit and striking out four in a March 22 contest at West Virginia...recorded his first win at Duquesne on April 16, allowing only one hit in 4.1 innings of work.
David Kaye was drafted in the 30th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays but chose to begin his post-high school career at Pitt...had 361 strikeouts as a four-year letterman at Riverview High School, 52 as a freshman, 93 as a sophomore, 92 as a junior and a WPIAL-high 124 as a senior...named to Post-Gazette's 2007 All-Section Team.
