Panthers post first back-to-back shutout wins since 2011
JUNIOR (2006): Paul Nardozzi made 14 appearances and 13 starts on the mound for the Panthers in 2006...pitched a total of 75.1 innings with a 6.45 ERA and 4-5 record...allowed 86 hits, 71 runs, 54 earned runs and 14 homeruns...recorded 70 strikeouts and 34 walks while facing 301 batters...picked up first win of 2006 while recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts and season-low two hits in a 6-0 shutout victory over Coastal Carolina... tallied second shutout in a 4-0 victory vs. Rollins on March 6... pitched first complete, nine-inning game in 8-1 win over Seton Hall...earned third win of the season in 14-2 dismantling of St. Joseph's...earned Big East Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 20 for performance vs. Coastal Carolina...set school record for career starts with 38 in the final game of the season vs. Georgetown.
SOPHOMORE (2005): Paul Nardozzi served as both a starter and reliever for the Panthers, making 10 starts in 14 appearances...posted a 4-5 record and had a 4.02 ERA...finished with a career-high 12 strikeouts while picking up his first win of the season vs. Wagner, allowing seven hits and two runs in eight innings...struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings to pick up the win vs. Temple...pitched six scoreless innings to earn a victory over Canisius...picked up the win in Pitt's dramatic Big East Tournament win over Boston College in 12 innings...pitched four innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out five batters...struck out eight batters in eight innings vs. Connecticut...notched his first save in 2.2 innings of relief in the final regular-season win over Georgetown...now has 10 wins in two seasons with Pitt.
FRESHMAN (2004): Nardozzi served primarily as a mid-week starter and weekend reliever for the Panthers...had a 6-3 record and a 4.61 ERA...his six wins were second on the team...started five games and saw action in 15 contests overall...in five Big East appearances, was 2-1 with a 3.68 ERA...had two combined shutouts, which led the team...notched his first career win with an 8-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's...finished with a career-high eight strikeouts in five innings, giving up no runs and just two hits...earned second win of the season in the rain-shortened five-inning game against Kent State...picked up his third win after starting and working the first five innings at Akron...gave up no runs and struck out four batters while allowing six hits...pitched the final 2.2 innings against then-No. 4 Notre Dame and ended up recording his fourth victory of the year as the Panthers came back in the ninth inning for the upset...in three innings of relief at Niagara, gave up no runs and no hits while striking out three batters in picking up his fifth win of the year...followed up with a victory over Seton Hall, pitching 4.1 innings of relief...struck out four Pirates and gave up just two hits and one run...in the Big East Tournament against Boston College, came on to pitch the final 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits and two runs (zero earned) while striking out two Eagles' batters.
HIGH SCHOOL: Named the New York State's Player of the Year, was named to the All-State first team in both his junior and senior seasons...TPX Louisville Slugger Preseason First Team High School All-American...TPX Louisville Slugger First-Team High School All-American...male athlete of the year at Victor High School...four-time Finger Lakes East all-star...two-time Finger Lakes Player of the Year...established Section V career strikeouts record with 406...tossed a Section V record three no-hitters...recorded a mark of 7-1 in his senior season with an ERA of 0.26 and 103 strikeouts...allowed only 19 hits in 53 innings of work as a senior...member of the National Honor Society.
