Redshirt (2001): Before suffering a season-ending arm injury, Scott Schultz was on his way to a memorable season for Pittsburgh...in six games, posted a team-best 1.90 ERA along with a 2-1 record and one save...started three contests...had 15 strikeouts in 23.2 innings...had his best outing of the season at Georgetown...pitched a complete-game one-hitter against the Hoyas, surrendering only a first-inning double...struck out five batters and walked three...tallied his other victory versus Marist, a 12-11 Panther win...gave up three runs in six innings...came on in relief against Holy Cross to pick up his only save the year...allowed one hit and one unearned run in one inning against the Crusaders...despite suffering the loss, Schultz pitched four solid innings against nationally ranked Notre Dame...gave up one run and four hits while striking out two Fighting Irish batters. Junior (2000): Schultz appeared in a team-high 22 games out of the bullpen, placing him fourth on the school's single-season appearances list...earned another team-best and career-high four saves against Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 26), Chicago State (March 8), Niagara (March 15) and Youngstown State (May 2)...recorded career highs in ERA (5.30), wins (three), innings pitched (35.2) and strikeouts (27)...had a season-high four strikeouts in a win at Duquesne (April 13)...also earned wins over Villanova (March 18) and Cleveland State (April 18)...moved into eighth place on Pittsburgh's career appearances list with 44. Sophomore (1999): Made 14 appearances on the mound, starting one game...recorded a 2-1 record with a 5.63 ERA...struck out 21 batters in 24 innings, including a season-high five strikeouts at Ohio State (May 5)...recorded wins over Holy Cross (5-4, March 7) and Connecticut (7-5, March 27)...earned a save versus Northwood (March 6). Freshman (1998): Made solid strides and gained a lot of exposure to Division I ball...also developed some needed consistency...struck out 13 batters in 11 and one-third innings...recorded one save in an 8-7 victory against Youngstown State (April 7)...appeared in nine contests, coming in primarily in late relief and as a closer...finished a league game at Rutgers in which he had an individual season-best three strikeouts against the eventual Big East Champions...played the previous summer for the Carrick American Legion team.
