HOMESTEAD, Fla.-The University of Pittsburgh baseball team improved to 6-0 on the year as it defeated Holy Cross, 7-1, Saturday afternoon in Homestead, Fla. The Panthers are now a perfect 3-0 in the Homestead Challenge.

After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom half of the fourth inning on an unearned run, Pittsburgh responded with five runs in the top of the sixth to break the game open. Senior Brad Rea plated the first two runs with a two-run single to center field, which scored Stuart Rykaceski and Tony Railing. P.J. Hiser later scored Rea as he reached first on an error by the Crusader third baseman. Bryan Spamer capped off the inning with a two-run single to left field, giving the Panthers a 5-1 advantage.

The Blue and Gold tacked on two more in the seventh inning as Rea once again singled home Railing and Brant Colamarino followed up with an RBI-single to left field.

Don Rhoten pitched the first five innings before giving way to Oehlberg. Rhoten gave up five hits and struck out four batters, while Oehlberg notched the victory by wrapping up the final four scoreless innings, scattering three hits and mowing down three Crusaders.

Pittsburgh is back in action on Sunday afternoon as it plays two games, the first against C.W. Post and the nightcap against Lehigh. Game times are slated for 2:45 and 5:30 p.m.
