PITTSBURGH-With the help of five home runs, the University of Pittsburgh baseball team pounded city-rival Duquesne, 19-3, Wednesday afternoon at Trees Field. The Panthers snapped a three-game losing skid and upped their overall record to 11-3-1, while the Dukes dropped to 5-6.

Junior Brant Colamarino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) cracked two home runs and drove in a career-high six RBIs to lead Pittsburgh. Senior Brad Rea (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) finished 3 for 6 with four RBIs, four runs and a homer, while sophomore Mike Zambriczki (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) and sophomore Bryan Spamer (Harrisburg, Pa./Redlands) each pounded out three hits apiece. Zambriczki added three runs and two RBIs, while Spamer crossed home plate four times.

The Panthers plated three runs in each of the first two innings, thanks to a two-run blast by Colamarino in the first and a three-run homer by Rea in the second. Pittsburgh broke open the game beginning in the fourth inning as it tallied two runs in four of the final five innings and registered five runs in the sixth inning.

Junior P.J. Hiser (Hagerstown, Md./Hagerstown) picked up his first win as a Panther, working eight innings and striking out six Dukes. Hiser scattered six hits and gave up three runs in the victory.

John Reig led Duquesne with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Ryan McGill suffered the loss on the mound, pitching five innings and surrendering 10 runs on 11 hits.

Pittsburgh continues its homestand this weekend as it hosts Niagara for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on both days is slated for noon.
