Pitt Falls to Ohio, 17-9, in Non-Conference Match Up

April 15, 2008

Box Score

PITTSBURGH--The Pitt baseball team traveled to Athens, Ohio, for a mid-week non-conference contest with Ohio University. The Panthers fell behind early and were unable to mount a comeback, as they fell to the Bobcats by a count of 17-9.

Jordan Herr (Lancaster, Pa./Delaware) got Pitt off to a hot start by belting a Zach Fairbanks offering over the wall in left field to lead off the top of the first and give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Coach Jodano's club would add four runs over the next three frames, but gave up eight to the Bobcats during that same period and found themselves down 11-5 heading into the fifth.

Sean Conley (Chippewa, Pa./Blackhawk) had another solid showing as he reached base four times in his six at-bats, including three singles. He also drove in three runs, extending his team-high total to 39 for the season, 20 more than the next highest Panther, Joe Leonard (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville).

OU's Kurt Smith picked up the win, while freshman Kevin Dooley (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) suffered his second loss of the season.

Pitt will be back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon to take on Duquesne at PNC Park. Earlier this month, the Panthers handed the Dukes a 9-8 loss at Trees Field. The rematch is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
