PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh rightfielder Casey Roche (JR/Downingtown, Pa.) has been named the CollegeBaseball360 National Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Roche, who was honored as Big East Player of the Week earlier this week, takes home the honor after a strong series against No. 32 Wichita State where he went 8-for-14 (.571 average) with seven RBI and two home runs in the Panthers’ sweep of the Shockers.
The sweep marked the first time that WSU had been swept in a three game home series in 43 years (1970 vs. Creighton). Additionally, prior to the series with the Panthers, legendary Shocker head coach Gene Stephenson had not lost a home game in the month of February during his 35 year tenure in Wichita.
Roche and the Panthers return to action on Friday, Feb. 22, when they take on Wofford in a three game set.
