PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Pitt baseball team is scheduled to play six games at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. on March 6-11. The Panthers open play at the event with a pair of games against defending NEC champion Sacred Heart, the first on Tuesday and the second on Wednesday.
Following the games with the Pioneers, Pitt will take on Xavier on Thursday. After a day off, the Panthers wrap up play with games against Miami (OH) and Akron on Saturday, and Michigan State on Sunday.
The Panthers were scheduled to play three games at the Coastal Carolina Invitational last weekend, but were only able to get the first game in because of rain. That game, however, proved to be a good one as coach Joe Jordano became Pitt baseball's all-time wins leader with a 3-1 victory over the Chanticleers, who are the five-time defending Big South champs.
Matt Wotherspoon will take the mound against Sacred Heart on Tuesday. He will be followed in the rotation by Luke Curtis, Matt Iannazzo, Ethan Mildren, and Casey Roche, before starting again in the finale against the Spartans.
Iannazzo is coming off a great start in his last time out, giving up just one earned run in eight innings of work for his 23rd career win. He needs just one more to tie former teammate Corey Baker for the program record.
