Pitt game notes
PITTSBURGH -
The Pitt baseball team travels across the state to play three games in three days from March 19-21 against St. Joseph’s, La Salle and Temple.
Pitt will play at St. Joseph's Friday at 3:15 p.m., at La Salle on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. and on Sunday at Temple at 12:15 p.m. A probable pitching rotation for the weekend includes Corey Baker Friday, TBA on Saturday and Matt Iannazzo on Sunday against the Owls.
The Panthers are coming off their home-opening win, 15-11, against the Youngstown State Penguins improving their record to 11-4 and dropping the Penguins to 6-6 overall.
Trailing 11-2 in the seventh inning, Pitt rallied to score 10 runs off seven hits. John Shultz and Kevan Smith scored three runs each and David Chester had five runs batted in.
Pitt looks to keep its momentum going into the weekend when they matchup against St. Joseph’s (2-8). The Hawks are coming off a 6-2 win during their home opener against Lehigh.
Pitt leads the all-time series 8-3 against the Hawks. During their last meeting the Panthers won 17-5 after an explosive third inning fueled by a grand slam from Cory Brownsten.
The Panthers will face La Salle (2-11) on Saturday. The Explorers head into the weekend after a win at St. Peter’s with a score of 4-2. Pitt leads the all time series 5-1 with their last meeting coming on March 7, 2005, resulting in a 9-5 Pitt victory.
Pitt wraps up the weekend with Temple (1-11), who fell to Penn earlier in the week, 12-6, after the Quakers scored four runs in the fourth off a two-run homer and a two-run double. Temple leads the all-time series against Pitt, 8-4. During their last matchup, the Panthers dropped the game, 5-3, on March 13, 2005.
