PITTSBURGH – Following a 4-0 week which included a sweep of No. 16 Notre Dame, University of Pittsburgh pitcher Ethan Mildren (JR/Hopwood, Pa.) has been named the Big East Pitcher of the Week, while right fielder Casey Roche (JR/Downingtown, Pa.) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Mildren earns the honor after throwing his third-consecutive, and seventh-career, complete game in a 4-0 win over Notre Dame in the series opener. In going the distance, Mildren allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out three to pick up his sixth win of the season.
Roche takes home his honor after a solid week at the plate highlighted by tallying 10 RBIs and hitting for the cycle in a 24-7 win over Youngstown State.
Mildren and Roche add to an impressive list of Panther Conference accolades in 2013 as Pitt has taken home seven Big East honors on the season. In addition to the Mildren and Roche, who each have multiple Conference honors, Stephen Vranka (JR/Monroeville, Pa.), Matt Wotherspoon (JR/Mountain Top, Pa.) and Boo Vazquez (SO/Youngstown, Ohio), have all been named to the Honor Roll.
Pitt returns to action on Tuesday, April 15, when it hosts Youngstown State in a 3 p.m. contest at Charles L. Cost Field at the Petersen Sports Complex.
