PITTSBURGH – Following a 5-1 week which included a sweep of Rutgers, University of Pittsburgh center fielder Stephen Vranka (JR/Monroeville, Pa.) has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Vranka takes home his second Conference honor of the season after a solid week that was capped off with a three-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to help the Panthers complete a sweep of the Scarlet Knights. Vranka finished the week with a team-best eight hits and also led the team with an .833 slugging percentage and four steals.
Vranka adds to an impressive list of Panthers who have taken home Conference accolades in 2013 as Pitt has taken home eight Big East honors on the season.
In addition to the Vranka, Ethan Mildren (JR/Hopwood, Pa.) and Casey Roche (JR/Downingtown, Pa.) have also garnered multiple Conference honors during the year while Matt Wotherspoon (JR/Mountain Top, Pa.) and Boo Vazquez (SO/Youngstown, Ohio), have each been named to the Honor Roll on one occasion.
Pitt returns to action on Saturday, April 27, when it hosts Cincinnati in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. at Charles L. Cost Field at the Petersen Sports Complex.
