PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh baseball team (29-10, 9-3 Big East) will host Cincinnati (17-22, 5-11 Big East) this weekend for a three-game set to be held at Charles L. Cost Field at the Petersen Sports Complex.
The series starts with a double-header on Saturday, April 27, that begins at 1 p.m. Both games of the double header will be streamed live on ESPN3 with Troy Clardy on the play-by-play and Josh Rowntree providing the color. Links to the broadcasts can be found below.
The series will wrap up with a noon contest on Sunday, April 28.
Pitt’s offense continues to shine leading the Big East in six major offensive categories - slugging percentage (.469), on-base percentage (.411), runs scored (319), runs batted in (285), home runs (40), and total bases (636). The Panthers lead some of the aforementioned categories by astonishing numbers including having more than doubled the amount of home runs as the second ranked Big East team (Rutgers, 19). Pitt also has 55 more runs scored than its nearest competitor Louisville despite having played one less game than the Cardinals.
Leading the Pitt offensive attack are Casey Roche (JR/Downingtown, Pa.) who ranks ninth nationally in RBIs (51) and Steven Shelinsky, Jr. (JR/Yardley, Pa.) is fifth nationally in home runs (five) and 15th in RBIs (46).
The Panthers have also been getting solid pitching from their weekend rotation. Ethan Mildren (JR/ Hopwood, Pa.) will toe the rubber in game one of the series while Matt Wotherspoon (JR/Mountain Top, Pa.) will take the mound in game two. The pair have combined for a 13-3 record with 101 strikeouts and six complete games. Sunday’s starter is still to be determined for Pitt.
Cincinnati is led offensively by Justin Glass who is batting .331 with a team-best 29 RBIs. UC will send righthander Connor Walsh to the hill for the first game of the series, while reigning Big East Pitcher of the Week Mitch Patishall will get the call in game two. Like the Panthers, the Bearcats have also not named a starter for the series finale.
The Panthers lead the all-time series between the two Big East foes 11-8, including taking two of three last season in Cincinnati.
