PITTSBURGH – Following a weekend sweep of Georgetown, Stephen Vranka (JR/Monroeville, Pa.) and Matt Wotherspoon (JR/Mountain Top, Pa.) have been named to the Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday afternoon. It marks the second time this season that multiple players have been honored by the Conference.
Vranka takes home his third weekly honor after a solid week where he went 8-for-22 (.364) with five RBI, two home runs and three doubles in Pitt’s 4-1 week.
Wotherspoon earns his second accolade after going seven innings allowing one run and six hits with six strikeouts in the Panthers’ Saturday victory over Georgetown.
Vranka and Wotherspoon add to an impressive list of Panthers who have taken home Conference accolades in 2013 as Pitt has taken home 11 Big East honors on the season.
In addition to Vranka and Wotherspoon, Boo Vazquez (SO/Youngstown, Ohio), Ethan Mildren (JR/Hopwood, Pa.) and Casey Roche (JR/Downingtown, Pa.) have also garnered multiple Conference honors during the year.
Pitt returns to action on Wednesday, May 8, when it hosts Ohio at 6 p.m. at Charles L. Cost Field at the Petersen Sports Complex.
