PITTSBURGH -

Pitt junior Phil Konieczny has been named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District baseball team.

Konieczny (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe) has recorded a 3.99 cumulative grade point average in engineering, earning a spot on the District 2 squad along with 10 others. Voting will also determine whether he is appointed to the national Academic All-America team.

The junior has now earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in his last five semesters and is a member of the University Honors College as a computer engineering major.

On the field, Konieczny has helped lead the Panthers to a 32-11 overall record and a No. 20 national ranking. He has started 26 of his 33 games played and spent time in both the outfield and at second base. At the plate, he is batting .350 on the year with seven doubles.

Konieczny and the Panthers travel to Seton Hall for a three-game series today and Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. start time Friday and a 1 p.m. start for Saturday’s doubleheader.
