Baseball Pitcher Earns Big East Conference Honors

Balazentis finishes the 1998 campaign with a 2-4 record and one save.

PITTSBURGH Senior pitcher for the Pittsburgh Panther baseball team Bob Balazentis (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) was named Big East Conference Pitcher of the Week this morning for his stellar performance in an 11-0 shutout against league-rival Seton Hall Monday, May 4 at Trees Field.

Balazentis, a right-handed threat on the mound, threw nine innings for his fourth complete game of the season while giving up only four hits, three walks and striking out 11 batters.

Balazentis finished the 1998 campaign with a 2-4 record and one save. His 2.35 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 46 innings are first on the squad. Balazentis' first win was against West Virginia April 29 at Hawley Field when he pitched another complete game while giving up seven hits, three runs one walk and striking out six in the Panthers' 5-3 victory.

Pittsburgh finished its season with a 12-27-1 overall record and a 5-16 conference mark.
