Clearwater, Fla. – Senior catcher Kevan Smith was named to the 2011 BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team, the league office announced Sunday. This selection marks the second consecutive season that Smith garners the award.
A unanimous first-team BIG EAST selectee, Smith led all tournament hitters with three home runs. In the first game of the Championship, Smith hit two round-trippers in a 7-2 victory over Louisville. He followed up the performance by going deep in his first at-bat against St. John’s the next day.
Throughout the championship, Smith batted .417, collecting five hits in 12 at-bats. He also scored three times while driving in four runs in three games.
Last season, Smith batted .750 (9-for12) in three games en route to earning all-tournament honors. In his three years at the BIG EAST championship, Smith has combined to bat .552 (16-for-29).
