PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh junior right-handed pitcher Ethan Mildren (JR/Hopwood, Pa.) has been selected by Minnesota Twins in the 12th round (350th overall) of the 2013 MLB Draft.

“Ethan has been incredible for us,” said Pitt head coach Joe Jordano. “Anytime he was on the mound we knew we had a chance to win. He pitches great, has incredible character on and off the field and definitely will be a good draft pick.”

Mildren, who becomes the 26th Pitt player selected during the Jordano Era, becomes the first ever Panther to be selected by the Twins organization.

Mildren is coming off a 2013 campaign where he was named a first team All-Big East performer. Mildren threw a team-best 114.2 innings and led the starting rotation with 10 wins, a 2.35 ERA and four complete games.

For his career, Mildren has amassed a 20-13 record with nine complete games, a 3.16 ERA and 193 strikeouts.  Mildren’s numbers rank him among the elite pitchers in Pitt history as he ranks fourth in wins, seventh in strikeouts, 12th in complete games and 18th in ERA.

“Ethan deserves everything coming his way,” Jordano said. “I have no doubt that he’s going to have a very successful professional career and I am confident that he will have the opportunity to pitch in the Big Leagues. I can’t say enough about Ethan and I look forward to watching his progress.”
