PITTSBURGH -
Pitt third baseman Joe Leonard has been named to the all-star roster for the Mid-Atlantic Classic, representing the Cal Ripken, Sr. League. The summer league game will be played July 15 at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md.
The contest, which is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. against all-stars from the Valley Baseball League, will be preceded by a Home Run Derby at 5:30 p.m. and will be televised live by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN). Following the Mid-Atlantic Classic, Leonard (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville) will continue summer play with the Youse’s Orioles prior to returning to Pitt in the fall.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. League is comprised of eight teams from the Maryland/Washington D.C./Virginia area including the Alexandria Aces, Bethesda Big Train, College Park Bombers, Herndon Braves, Maryland Redbirds, Rockville Express, Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts and Youse’s Orioles.
Leonard started all 42 games he played for Pitt this past season, batting .316 with 35 RBI, which was good enough for second on the team.
