PITTSBURGH – Team Vegas took a 1-0 lead over Team Navy in the University of Pittsburgh baseball team’s best-of-three Fall World Series.
Vegas won the series opener 8-3 on Tuesday behind a big hit from Boo Vazquez. The freshman broke the game open with a three-run triple in the bottom of the third inning.
Matt Wotherspoon registered the win for Vegas, pitching 3 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two batters.
John Peluso and Steve Shelinsky led Navy with two hits apiece.
The second game of the series was scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The third game will be played Friday.
