John Alesi begins his first year as the assistant video coordinator for the Pittsburgh Panthers. In addition to assisting with the video efforts for the entire athletic department, Alesi serves as the chief video contact for the men's basketball program. Alesi arrives at Pitt after serving two stints as an assistant basketball coach at both Baruch College (N.Y.) and Hofstra University. While at Baruch as an assistant coach in 2004-05, Alesi assisted in all aspects of the program including game preparation, scouting, film exchange, budget, fund raising and academic progress. He served as a graduate assistant at Hofstra for the 2003-04 season where he coordinated the program's scouting, film exchange, academics and game strategy. A four-year basketball letterwinner at NCAA Division III Baruch College in New York City, Alesi led the program to four straight postseason appearances and its best four-year record in school history (78-34). As a senior in 2003, Alesi earned All-CUNYAC First Team and NABC Second Team All-Region honors after leading Baruch to a school-best 25-5 record and ECAC Metro NY/NJ Postseason title. He was also named Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC Postseason tournament. As a freshman in 2000, he earned team Rookie of the Year honors and helped lead Baruch to the school's only CUNYAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. He concluded his career ranked as school's ninth all-time leading scorer (1,091 points) and finished among school leaders in steals (2nd all-time, 237), 3-pointers made (3rd, 120) and free throw percentage (1st, 80%). Alesi earned a bachelor's degree in marketing management from Baruch in January, 2004. He has also worked as a camp counselor at the University of Pittsburgh summer basketball camp. |
