THE STORYLINE

A native of Beaver Falls, Pa. which is 33 miles from the Pitt campus, Sheldon Jeter is a tough, athletic and physical wing player who will have three years of eligibility at Pitt after sitting out the 2013-14 season. Jeter transfers to Pitt after completing his freshman season at Vanderbilt (2012-13), where he averaged 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while playing in all 33 games and making seven starts. A combination forward, Jeter has been described as a competitive team player who hates to lose. Jeter is long and lean and can create off the dribble because he plays low to the floor. An effective outside shooter, Jeter can drive to the basket with authority and is a hard worker who is willing to improve his game. His athleticism comes out more in transition. In 2012-13, he made national highlight reels with his dunk against Mississippi in the Southeastern Conference Tournament when he drove the baseline and proceeded to slam it home. The play made the ESPN SportsCenter top-10 plays of the day. Jeter, who hails from a tradition-rich basketball family, enrolled at Pitt during the first summer session. Last year, he attended classes but did not compete at Polk State Junior College in Winter Haven, Fla. in order to preserve a third year of NCAA eligibility.
