*Pitt improved to 7-2 in the Big East and 19-2 overall. At 19-2, Pitt needs just one more win to record its eighth straight 20-win season. Pitt is the only Big East school to win 20 overall games and 10-plus league games in each of the last seven seasons.
*Pitt improved to 28-9 overall under Jamie Dixon following a loss.
*With his career-high 22 rebounds and 23 points, DeJuan Blair became the first Pitt player to register a 20-20 performance since Chris McNeal achieved the feat on March 3, 1992. His performance was the ninth 20-20 performance in school history and he became just the eighth player in school history achieve a 20-20. Blair’s 22 rebounds set a school record for most rebounds in a Big East game, breaking the previous record held by Jerome Lane (21 at Connecticut on Feb. 21, 1987). The 22 rebounds rank as the third all-time best performance in school history. The school record is 26 rebounds set by Don Virostek vs. Westminster in 1952-53. The 22 rebounds also rank tied for fourth all-time in Big East history. The Big East record is 26 held by Providence’s Michael Smith vs. Syracuse on Jan. 25, 1994. Blair finished with his 14th double-double of the year and 28th of his career. Blair also grabbed a career-high 11 offensive rebounds.
*Ashton Gibbs scored a career-high tying 13 points. His previous career-high was 13 points vs. Maryland-Baltimore County on Dec. 13, 2008. He also matched a career-high with three 3-point field goals.
*Levance Fields finished the day with 17 points and seven assists. His 17 points marked the 14th double figure scoring game of the season and 60th of his career.
*With 13 points, Brad Wanamaker reached double figure scoring for the second straight game and third time this year. His eight free throws made and eight attempts and six rebounds marked new career-highs. Over the last two games, Wanamaker is averaging 13.0 points and shooting 66.7 percent (8-12 FG) from the field.
*With his 16 points, Jermaine Dixon registered his ninth double figure scoring game on the year. His three 3-point field goals made and five rebounds both tied career-highs.
*Pitt has won 15 straight home games and carries a 109-10 all-time record (.916 winning percentage) in the Petersen Events Center. Pitt also owns a 44-9 record vs. Big East Conference opponents at the Petersen Events Center.
*Pitt grabbed a total of 22 offensive rebounds. That marked the sixth time this season that Pitt has surpassed the 20-offensive rebound mark.
*Pitt and Notre Dame met for the 53rd time in series history. Pitt improved to 27-26 all-time vs. the Fighting Irish. Pitt also won its fifth straight contest vs. the Fighting Irish at home. Pitt has now claimed seven of the series’ last nine total meetings.
*Pitt’s senior class of Tyrell Biggs, Levance Fields and Sam Young won their 100th career game today. The trio dropped to 100-28 all-time at Pitt. They became just the sixth four-year class in school history to win over 100 career games. The school record for most victories over a four-year period is 108 wins held by the 2004-05 senior class.
*Notre Dame became just the second team this season to score over 70 points against Pitt. Pitt has now limited 19 of its 21 opponents to 70 points or less. Since Jamie Dixon became head coach, Pitt has held 157 of its 193 opponents under 70 points.
