*The loss drops Pitt to 16-5 overall and 6-3 in the Big East Conference. South Florida improves to 14-7 overall and 4-5 in the Big East. Pitt is back in action at West Virginia on Wednesday, Feb. 3 in Morgantown. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. on ESPN Regional/FSN Pittsburgh.
*Pitt has now won 10 of its last 12 games and 13 of its last 17 contests.
*Pitt now drops to 4-2 on the road this season with wins at Duquesne, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Connecticut. With a 3-2 Big East road record, Pitt has now claimed 11 of its last 15 road games. Over the last nine years, Pitt has proved to be the Big East’s winningest team on the road as it has accumulated a 44-28 record.
*Pitt shot a season-low 54.5 percent (12-22) from the free throw line. Previously, Pitt shot just 54.6 percent in an overtime win against Duquesne on Dec. 2, 2099. In the second half alone, Pitt converted only 7-15 free throws. Pitt entered the game with its best free throw shooting percentage in the last 10 years at 70 percent.
*Pitt drops to 24-9 all-time against Big East programs which were added in 2005-06: Cincinnati 6-1, DePaul 6-0, Louisville 5-3, Marquette 4-4, USF 3-1.
*Jermaine Dixon did not play in the game. He was listed as a game time decision and day-to-day following an injury to his right foot suffered in the second half against St. John’s.
*Gilbert Brown scored a career-high 25 points in the contest. Brown either set or tied career-highs for field goals made (9), field goal attempts (13), 3-point field goals made (2) and minutes played (35). The contest marked his second career 20-point game and 21st career double figure scoring contest.
*Brad Wanamaker finished the day with 14 points on 6-12 shooting. The 14-point performance marked his 19th career and 14th season double figure scoring game.
*Ashton Gibbs concluded the game with 11 points, his 26th career and 18th season double figure scoring game. Gibbs extended his free throw shooting streak to 26 consecutive free throws made with his 2-2 performance today.
*Gary McGhee finished with a career-high tying 11 rebounds. It marked the fifth time in his career/season that he has grabbed 10 or more rebounds.
*The two teams combined for 45 fouls (25-Pitt, 20-USF). South Florida attempted an opponent game-high 35 free throws. The Bulls converted 24-35 free throws for 68.6 percent on the day.
*Pitt’s bench outscored South Florida’s 25-0.
*USF guard Dominique Jones scored an individual opponent season-high 37 points. The 37 points marked the highest scoring performance for an individual against Pitt since Notre Dame’s Chris Quinn finished with 37 points against the Panthers in 2006.
*Pitt dropped to 3-3 all-time in games played against South Florida. Pitt is now 3-1 vs. USF since the program joined the Big East in 2005-06.
