POST GAME QUOTESHEET

No. 4 Pitt at No. 25 West Virginia, Feb. 7, 2011, WVU Coliseum, Morgantown, W.Va.

No. 4 Pitt 71, No. 25 West Virginia 66

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon

Opening statement:

“It was a good win for us against a very good team. I know they have a high RPI, they’re experienced, they have five seniors and again, they’re a very good team. What I like about it was how we did it – we really focused on the rebounding. We wanted to cut down their offensive rebounds, they average 15 in conference, and we really cut it in half. That was a great sign. We did really well with our rebounding and defense, and that’s what we set out to do.”

On Ashton Gibbs’ absence:

“Ashton wasn’t playing and I think we really got the message across to our guys in the last 24 hours since we found out he wasn’t playing. Everybody else was asking who was going to step up. We didn’t have to have anyone step up. We just had to play the way we play, do the things we do and execute. No one really had to do anything different, or shoot more 3’s, or become a different player overnight. They just had to do what we do and play like we play when (Ashton Gibbs) is not in the game or in practice.”

Quoting West Virginia coach Bob Huggins

On Pitt’s second half”

“They outmanned us is what happened. They beat us to death on the offensive glass and drove it where they wanted to drive it. They just out-manned us.”

On the different with Ashton Gibbs out:

“They drive it more. (Brad) Wanamaker, (Gilbert) Brown, drive it. (Nasir) Robinson drives it. They just attack the rim.”

On if the problem can be corrected:

“We’re just outmanned. I can’t trade them, I could waive them I guess, but I couldn’t get anybody for them. I could sit here and lie to you, but we just got out-manned.”

On if he expected problems on the offensive glass:

“I was hoping not. We can’t lose John Flowers. If we lose John Flowers, we lose a guy who is a factor around the rim. We’re not very athletic as it is and our athleticism really takes a dive when John is out.”

On Deniz Kilicli:

“We finally threw him the ball. We should’ve thrown him the ball at the Villanova game and we didn’t. That was an emphasis yesterday, to make sure we throw him the ball when he’s working to get it.”
