*With the win, Pitt registered its third victory over a top-5 nationally ranked team on the year. Pitt is the only team in America to have three wins against top-5 ranked teams. Pitt also won at No. 5 Syracuse, defeated No. 5 West Virginia in three overtimes and now No. 3 Villanova.
*With the win, Pitt has now surpassed 20 wins overall and 10 wins in league play for the ninth consecutive season. Pitt is the only school in the Big East to achieve that mark in each of the last nine seasons. Pitt is one of only four programs nationally to advance to the NCAA Tournament, win 20 overall games and 10 league games in each of the last eight years. The other three teams include Arizona, Gonzaga and Kansas.
*With the win, Pitt improved to 7-0 at the Petersen Events Center against top-5 nationally ranked teams. The Panthers improved to 12-4 against top-25 teams in the Petersen Events Center. Jamie Dixon is now 6-0 at home against top-5 ranked teams.
*Pitt improved its Petersen Events Center record to 130-11 overall is 55-10 all-time against Big East opponents. Pitt is 15-1 at home this year and has won 36 of its last 37 home games.
*Pitt has won five consecutive games.
*Pitt defeated Villanova in Pittsburgh for the seventh straight time. Villanova has not defeated Pitt in Pittsburgh since the 1996 season. Pitt also improved to 20-5 all-time vs. the Wildcats at home while the Panthers are now 28-32 all-time vs. Villanova. Pitt is now 3-0 vs. VU at the Petersen Events Center.
*Pitt wore gold uniforms for the fourth time since the program introduced them last year. Pitt improves to 4-0 when wearing gold.
*Today’s announced crowd of 12,920 set a record for largest on-campus crowd in school history. The previous school-high was 12,908 vs. Connecticut on March 7, 2009.
*Pitt limited the highest scoring Big East team in Villanova to 20 points below its season average. Villanova entered the game averaging 85.0 points per game and Pitt held them to 65. Pitt has now held 20 of its 27 opponents on the year to 70 points or less.
*Pitt won its 21st game of the year. The 21 wins rank tied for 12th on Pitt’s all-time winningest season list.
*Despite shooting only 35.1 percent (20-57) from the floor, the Panthers converted 76.5 percent of their free throw attempts and grabbed 21 offensive rebounds. The Panthers’ bench outscored Villanova 24-10.
*Ashton Gibbs finished with a game-high 21 points, his 10th 20-point performance of the year. He has now scored 20 or more points in three of the last four games.
*Gilbert Brown finished with 16 points, his eighth double figure scoring game of the year and 24th of his career.
*Jermaine Dixon finished the day with 10 points on 3-15 shooting. It was his 26th career double figure scoring game and 11th on the year.
*Gary McGhee finished with a career-high eight offensive rebounds en route to a total of 10 rebounds. McGhee has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in eight contests over his career.
