*Pitt’s five-game win streak was snapped.
*The loss drops Pitt to 21-7 overall and 10-5 in the Big East Conference while Notre Dame improves to 18-10 overall and 7-8 in the Big East. Pitt travels to New York and Madison Square Garden for a Saturday matchup at St. John’s at noon. Pitt has three Big East regular season games remaining: at St. John’s, Providence at home and Rutgers at home.
*Pitt drops to 5-4 on the road this season with wins at Duquesne, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Connecticut and Marquette. With a 4-4 Big East road record, Pitt has now claimed 12 of its last 18 road games. Over the last nine years, Pitt has proved to be the Big East’s winningest team on the road as it has accumulated a 45-30 record.
*Pitt was defeated by 10 or more points for the only 15th time since Jamie Dixon became head coach in 2003-04. Under Dixon, Pitt is now 184-52. Incredibly, 35 of his 52 losses have come by fewer than 10 points and on 20 of his 52 losses have come by less than four points. Dixon dropped to 80-35 all-time vs. Big East regular season opponents. In games played after losing a contest, Jamie Dixon owns a 34-11 record.
*Pitt trailed by its largest margin of the year (24 points, 58-34 with 9:05 left in the game). Pitt also trailed by its largest halftime deficit of the year (8 points, 35-27).
*Pitt held Notre Dame to 68 points and limited an opponent to 70 or less points for the 21st time in 28 games this year. Under Dixon, Pitt has held 186 of its 236 opponents to 70 points or less.
*Pitt dropped to 9-17 all-time in games played at Notre Dame. It is now 27-27 all-time vs. Notre Dame and has lost each of the last two matchups in South Bend.
*Notre Dame converted 10 3-pointers, which marks an opponent team season-high. The previous high for 3-pointers made was nine, three times.
*Pitt was outrebounded 34-25. It was outrebounded for only the sixth time this season. Pitt’s 25 rebounds represented a team season low and ranked tied for the third lowest total in the Jamie Dixon Era.
*Pitt committed a season-low four turnovers in the game. Its previous team season low was six turnovers set vs. Binghamton on Nov. 17, 2009. The four turnovers ranked tied for the lowest mark in the Jamie Dixon Era. Pitt also had just four turnovers vs. Louisville on Feb. 24, 2008.
*Pitt attempted a team season-low seven free throws. Its previous team season low was 12 two times vs. Binghamton and at Marquette. The three free throws ranked tied for the third fewest free throw attempts in the Jamie Dixon Era.
*Notre Dame shot 50.0 percent (22-44) from the floor, which ranks as the second highest field goal percentage compiled vs. Pitt this season.
*Pitt’s 53 points marked its third lowest scoring output of the year. Pitt scored just 47 points vs. New Hampshire and 51 at West Virginia.
*With his 13 points, Jermaine Dixon registered his 27th double figure scoring game.
*Ashton Gibbs reached double figure scoring for the 24th time in 28 games. He hit three 3-pointers and has now converted eight of 16 3-point attempts in each of the last two games. He has hit at least one 3-pointer in 43 of his 63 career games played.
