PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ricardo Greer scored 17 points and had eight rebounds with six assists to lead Pittsburgh to a 70-51 victory over Virginia Tech in a Big East game Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (15-12, 7-9 Big East) have won three of their last four games since a season-worst four-game losing streak. Virginia Tech (8-19, 2-14) lost its ninth consecutive game and ended the season by losing 11 of 12 games.

Pitt had a 41-40 lead with 15:40 left in the second half before starting a 16-3 run that blew the game open. The first points in that stretch came on a 3-pointer by Donatas Zavackas that ended a stretch of nine consecutive missed 3-point attempts by the Panthers.

Jaron Brown scored six of his 12 points in the 16-3 run.

Julius Page also scored 12 points for Pittsburgh and Isaac Hawkins had 11 points with eight rebounds.

Carlton Carter and Brian Chase led the Hokies with 11 points and Danny Gathings scored 10.

Pitt opened the game by making three consecutive 3-point shots, then made just three of the next 21.

Virginia Tech shot only four free throws, making three. Pitt was 14-for-23 on free throws.

The Panthers will meet Miami in the opening round of the Big East Tournament in New York on Wednesday evening. Virginia Tech did not qualify for the conference tournament.
