*Pitt improved to 17-15 overall on the year.
*Pitt moved to 26-27 overall in Big East Championship action which includes 7-6 mark in first round play.
*Pitt won its 20th Big East Tournament game, the most in the league over the last 11 years.
*Today’s win snaps a three-game losing streak for Pitt in its first game of the Big East Championship. The last win for the Panthers in BEC play came on March 15, 2008, a 75-65 victory over Georgetown which captured the Big East Tournament crown.
*The 14-point win is the largest margin of victory for a Panthers team in Big East Tournament play since March 10, 2006 – a 68-54 win over Villanova. That win propelled Pitt into the 2006 Championship game.
*Pitt is 28-13 at Madison Square Garden since the 2001-01 season. The Panthers have claimed 16 of their last 22 games at MSG. Pitt is 2-0 at MSG this year.
*The Panthers improved their all-time record against St. John’s to 23-34 and have now won seven of the last eight matchups.
*Pitt’s 15 assists are the most for the Panthers in a Big East Championship game since 2008 against Louisville (17 on March 13, 2008).
*The Panthers used a 13-2 scoring run over the final 4:46 of the first half to take a 33-28 lead into the locker room. With the win, Pitt improved to 16-3 when leading at the half. The Panthers never trailed in the second half.
*Ashton Gibbs led the Panthers in scoring with 20 points. Gibbs now has 1,705 career points, becoming only the ninth player with 1,700 or more points in Pitt history. The game was Gibbs’ 86th career double figure scoring game. The contest marked the senior’s third straight double figure game. Gibbs has scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season and 33 times over his career. The 33rd 20-point plus performance ties Gibbs with Brian Shorter (1988-91) for seventh most in Pitt history. Gibbs was 6-6 from the free throw line, his 11th perfect showing from the charity stripe this season.
*Nasir Robinson scored 15 points and has now reached double figures in 16 games, including the second-straight. The 15 points are the most since versus Georgetown on Jan. 23, a span of nine games. Robinson also added a team-high eight rebounds, his 10th game of the season with eight or more boards.
