Men's Basketball Registers 97-56 Win Over Pitt-Johnstown in Exhibition Game

Pitt took command by scoring 23 consecutive points to close out the first half. Over the first half's final 10:53, Pitt outscored Pitt-Johnstown 29-2 to take its 49-15 lead at halftime. Junior Sam Young paced Pitt with 17 points and nine rebounds, senior Mike Cook and junior Levance Fields added 13 points apiece and freshman DeJuan Blair contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. Redshirt freshman Gilbert Brown scored nine points and junior Tyrell Biggs added nine points off the bench. Pitt outrebounded UPJ 54-30, outscored UPJ 58-30 in the paint, converted 52.7 percent of its field goals and scored 28 fast break points. Pitt's bench also outscored the Mountain Cats 40-9. Pitt-Johnstown's Chris Gilliam led all scorers with 23 points on 11-19 shooting. The Mountain Cats finished last season with a 21-9 record. Pitt will also host its first annual Baierl Alumni Basketball Game Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The contest prior to the Panthers' exhibition game against IUP. Over 50 former players, coaches and managers are expected to participate. An autograph session will also be held the alumns' honor during halftime of the Pitt women's basketball exhibition game against the Ohio Legends. --30--
