POST-GAME QUOTESHEET

Pitt vs. Kentucky Wesleyan, Exhibition Game, November 7, 2011

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon

Opening Statement:

“We can talk about the stretch where we outscored them by 26, which was pretty good.  We improved and got better or we can talk about the early and the end and that wasn’t what we want to do.  I’d say I take responsibility for putting all of those guys in at the end.  That was not what I wanted to do.  I didn’t feel good about doing it, but at the same time I wanted to get them in there.  That was my fault.”

On Kentucky Wesleyan:

“We went up against a team that was very hungry.  They played very hard and I think we got something out of it.  That’s the important thing.  They are a team that we knew was good. They were experienced and Kentucky Wesleyan basketball has a lot of history and we know we played a very good team.”

On playing time as the season begins on Friday:

“We have to get our rotation set.  Nas (Robinson) being out kind of messed up our rotation, but I thought Malcom (Gilbert) played well (and) I thought Khem (Birch) played well.  Concerns  going into the year were evident in this game, pick-and-pop four, spacing the floor, playing the bigs out on the perimeter, having young guys guarding smaller guys out on the perimeter was obviously something that was exposed tonight.”

On the game as a whole:

“We’ve got to get better.  But we’ve had some good stretches, I like the way some of our guys are playing.  I thought Lamar (Patterson) played well, I thought Talib (Zanna) rebounded very well, I thought Tray (Woodall) played well in stretches and I thought Ashton (Gibbs) played solidly too.  It’s about getting ready for Friday, that’s what we have to do.”

On first action of season since injury:

“I felt good.  I’m not 100 percent yet, but I’m close to it.”

On teammate Patterson’s progression as player from last season to this season:

“Lamar is playing with more confidence and looks more comfortable on the floor.”

On showing Coach Dixon his various skills:

“I was just hitting shots out there tonight.  Just showing coach that I can score.”
