POST-GAME QUOTESHEET

2K Sports Classic/Coaches vs. Cancer Classic

Pitt vs. Texas, Madison Square Garden, November 19, 2010

Pitt 68, Texas 66

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon

Opening statement:

“You have to give credit to Texas. We got outrebounded. We plan to win the battle of the boards every night and we didn’t get it done tonight. Our ball screens were good but they did a good job of guarding them. They are well-coached and very talented. Texas is a very good team who plays very hard. To beat an Illinois team and to come back against us. Both teams had to play quality people.

On Texas’ defense:

They guarded us well but we made good decisions at the end of the game. You can’t have the mentality that every play you run or every ball screen has to be a shot or has to be a play. You have to have patience and recognize that we are not going to get a shot on every one. It’s about the process about the grind, the patience and the commitment to what we are doing.”

On the team’s togetherness:

“It starts with what kind of guys you have. We have guys from winning programs who have won all their lives and they are used to winning. They are proud to be at the University of Pittsburgh and they playing for the name on their front jersey and I think that is important. Character is what we look for and you when you get high character kids, you can do a lot of great things.”

Quoting Texas Head Coach Rick Barnes

Opening statement:

“The most disappointing thing for me is the way we came out to start the game. You feel like you give one away when you don’t come with the kind of energy we just stood around, didn’t move the ball and got stagnant on one side early. We didn’t play very hard on the offensive end and obviously still have a lot of work to do defensively as most teams do this time of year. The one thing we can take away from it is that we have a group of young guys that had a chance to get into two really good teams up here and learn some things and we will definitely improve from this. I just think we’re not even close to being as good as we can be.”

On the game’s last possession:

“We definitely want to take the ball to the basket and go at it, drive the ball, try and get it there and we didn’t get it there. And you have to give Pitt credit for it, but we were going to put pressure on the rim and we got too deep. Obviously with help we would have kicked it out. It just didn’t work for us.”
