POST-GAME QUOTESHEET

Texas Tech vs. Pitt • Barclays Center • November 25, 2013

Pitt 76, Texas Tech 53

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon

On the game:

“Obviously really excited about how we started the game. We kind of have a pattern of doing that right now, it’s a good thing to have going for you. We have unselfish kids that are working hard.”

On defense:

“I’ve felt our offense has been ahead of our defense all year long and so that’s been our emphasis these last couple of weeks.”

On new foul rule:

“You have to make adjustments. We’ve worked on our zone a lot in anticipation of this. It’s been good for us and this was the first time we’ve really actually gave up some baskets. The rebounding was the thing that hurt us in the second half and the first half as well.”

Quoting Pitt’s Lamar Patterson

On Pitt’s first big run:

“We were just doing what we do. We played unselfish basketball. Took the open shots, and knocked down the shots. Everything just clicked in the first half.”

On being recruited to Pitt:

“When I was being recruited, Pitt was known for all of that. That’s the type of stuff I like. Playing with my older brothers, I was always taught defense is how you separate yourself and that attracted me in high school.”

Quoting Pitt’s Cameron Wright

On being recruited to Pitt:

“I knew what I was getting myself into at Pitt. They really stressed defense. That’s primary to get us going on offense.”

Quoting Texas Tech Head Coach Tubby Smith

On the game:

“I thought Pittsburgh was pretty impressive tonight. They executed, shot the ball and did some things well. We seemed to be pretty intimidated as far as the first part of the game. I was really impressed with their defense and we have some things we have to work on, that is for certain.”

On the Pittsburgh defense:

“Jamie Dixon is an outstanding coach. He has some talented players, too. When you get guys sharing the minutes like they did, and sharing the basketball the way they did and defending the way they do, that is a compliment to their coaching staff, their leadership and the character of their team. They know how they are going to win games especially when you throw in their ability to make the three-point shot. It’s tough because we really haven’t played against anyone that has been that physical and I thought their size, athleticism, and strength made a difference.”

Quoting Texas Tech’s Jaye Crockett

On trying to comeback after the first-half:

“It was very tough and you have to be mentality ready. It’s more mental than physical because you just have to forget about the first half, put that in your past and go out there and win that second-half.”

On what went wrong tonight:

“In the BIG 12 we play a lot of teams with tough defenses, but I think a lot of times tonight we just missed a lot of easy shots that we usually make. Jordan Tolbert missed some lay-ups and he can make 10-of-10 any day. Our guards got in the lane and missed some shots. We just missed too many easy shots.”

On Pittsburgh’s shooting:

“We knew they were a good team, we knew they could shoot and we didn’t contest on every shot as good as we should have. They were hot; they were making every shot and we expected them to come out and make shots.”
