PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will stage a “Gold Out” for its Saturday, Feb. 2 men’s basketball matchup against No. 6 Syracuse at the Petersen Events Center. All fans are encouraged to wear gold clothing and will receive a custom “This Is Our House” gold tee-shirt courtesy of Peoples Natural Gas. Tipoff for the nationally televised game on ESPN is at noon ET.
Syracuse represents the second top-10 nationally ranked team to play at Pitt this season. Pitt owns a 12-1 record vs. top-10 nationally ranked teams at the Petersen Events Center since the arena opened in 2002.
Pitt and Syracuse will meet for the final time in Big East regular season play. Both schools will enter Atlantic Coast Conference competition next season. Pitt is 13-4 overall and 5-1 at the Petersen Events Center in matchups against Syracuse since March 9, 2001. Syracuse holds a 62-38 all-time advantage in the series dating back to Jan. 29, 1914. Pitt coach Jamie Dixon owns a 9-3 all-time record vs. Syracuse.
The Petersen Events Center was recently named the eighth-best homecourt advantage in college basketball by ESPN writer Jason King. In addition, StadiumJourney.com rated the Petersen Events Center No. 80 on its list of 1,225 sports stadium experiences.
This marks the third consecutive season that Pitt has hosted a “Gold Out.” Pitt previously held a “Gold Out” for a Dec. 27, 2010 contest between the No. 6 ranked Panthers and No. 4 Connecticut. Pitt also held a “Gold Out” for its Feb. 16, 2012 game vs. West Virginia.
