PITTSBURGH--University of Pittsburgh senior guard Ashton Gibbs (Scotch Plains, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2011-12 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The prestigious award recognizes NCAA Division I men's and women's basketball senior student-athletes who excel both on and off the court.

Finalists were selected by a national media committee and voting begins immediately to determine the winner. The recipient of the award will be determined based upon a combination of fan voting, in addition to the votes of several Division I men's and women's basketball head coaches and media members. Fans may vote on either the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award website (http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/mens_basketball_2011-12/) or the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/LowesSeniorCLASSAward). Nationwide voting will continue online through March 18 and the winner will be announced during the 2012 NCAA Men's Final Four held from March 31-April 2 in New Orleans.

The Lowe's Senior CLASS (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School) Award recognizes players for their accomplishments not only as an athlete, but also as a leader in the community. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must excel in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The award is designed exclusively for college seniors who are completing their athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.

On the year, Gibbs is averaging 16.4 points and 3.1 assists per game while scoring 20 or more points in seven games and reaching double figures in 21 of Pitt's 23 contests. Gibbs enters this weekend as the school recordholder for career 3-point field goals made (273) and ranked among Pitt's all-time career leaders in scoring (12th, 1,585 points), double figure scoring games (8th, 81), 20-point games (9th, 30), 3-point field goal attempts (2nd, 653), 3-point percentage (2nd, .418), free throw percentage (3rd, .868) and assist:turnover ratio (10th, 1.58).
