GREENSBORO, N.C.--With Saturday's 83-78 overtime win at Clemson, the University of Pittsburgh has clinched the No. 5 seed upon entering its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament next week at Greensboro Coliseum.
The No. 5 seeded Panthers (23-8, 11-7 ACC) open their first-ever ACC Tournament in a Second Round matchup on Thursday, March 13 at 2 p.m. ET against either No. 12 seed Wake Forest (16-15, 6-12 ACC) or No. 13 seed Notre Dame (15-16, 6-12 ACC). The contest will be nationally televised on ESPN and on the ACC Network.
All of Pitt's ACC Tournament games will be televised nationally on one of the ESPN networks and on the ACC Television Network.
Should Pitt win Thursday's contest, it would advance to Friday's Quarterfinal Round against No. 4 seed North Carolina (23-8, 13-5 ACC), set for March 14 at 2 p.m. on ESPN or ESPN2/ACC Network.
A win in that game would give Pitt a berth in the Saturday, March 15 semifinal at 1 p.m. on ESPN/ACC Network. The ACC Championship Game is set for Sunday, March 16 at 1 p.m. on ESPN.
Pitt competes in its first ACC Tournament after spending the last 31 years in the Big East Conference. Pitt advanced to seven of the last 13 Big East Championship Finals and captured two tournament titles in both 2003 and 2008. Named Madison Square Garden's "Team of the Decade" from 2000-10, Pitt compiled a league-best 20 victories in the Big East Championship since 2000-01. Over the last 13 seasons, Pitt ranks among the nation's top-5 in overall winning percentage (342-104) and owns the ACC's second best regular season record (152-70).
The ACC Tournament is in its 61st year of operation. The tournament will be held in Greensboro for the next two seasons (2014 and 2015), then Washington, D.C. in 2016.
Prior to the season, Pitt was picked to finish sixth in the ACC by a vote of the league's media members.
