Three Men's Basketball Players Earn Sports Illustrated All-America Team honors

March 18, 2009

PITTSBURGH—Pitt men’s basketball players—sophomore DeJuan Blair, senior Sam Young and senior Levance Fields—were three of 15 players nationwide selected to the Sports Illustrated magazine All-America team. Blair was named to the First Team, Young garnered Second Team accolades and Fields earned Third Team honors. The teams are listed below.

Pitt is the only program with three players on the Sports Illustrated All-America team. North Carolina placed two players on the 15-member team.

The trio has helped guide No. 4 ranked Pitt to a 28-4 overall record and second place finish in the Big East regular season with a 15-3 slate. Pitt earned its first-ever No. 1 seed upon entering the NCAA Tournament and No. 1 national ranking in three different weeks this year. Pitt also went an undefeated 19-0 at home, won its first 16 games to start the season and defeated the nation’s No. 1 ranked team on two different occasions.
