SAO SEBASTIAO, Brazil—Incoming freshman James Robinson and Team USA have qualified for the Medal Semifinals of the FIBA Americas U18 Basketball Championship with an 83-64 win over host Brazil.
The undefeated United States team will now play 2-1 Argentina, the second place finishers from Group B, on Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET. The winner of the USA-Argentina contest will earn the right to play either Canada (3-0) or Brazil (2-1) in the Gold Medal Game on Wednesday, June 20. Team USA clinched the top record in Group A with consecutive wins over U.S. Virgin Islands, Mexico and Brazil.
Through the USA’s three games, Robinson has dished out 10 assists while tallying only one turnover and has averaged 3.7 points (11 points) and 15.3 minutes per game. The Americans outscored their preliminary round opponents by an average of 44 points per game.
On Monday, Jarnell Stokes led the Americans with 22 points on 11-14 shooting en route to an 83-64 triumph over Brazil to secure the top seed in Group A. All 12 American players scored in the game. Robinson came off the bench and nailed two field goals while adding one assist and one steal in 13 minutes played.
