SAO SEBASTIAO, Brazil—Incoming Pitt freshman James Robinson and Team USA will play in tonight’s FIBA Americas U18 Basketball Gold Medal game against host Brazil. Team USA advanced to the title game with a 107-72 win over Argentina in semifinal play yesterday.

In the pursuit of a sixth gold medal, USA teams are 38-2 overall in previous FIBA Americas U18 Championships (formerly known as the Junior World Championship Qualifier), and have captured gold in 1990, 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010, while winning a silver in 2008 and a bronze medal in 2002.

Team USA (4-0) meets Brazil (3-1) for the second time in three days. The Americans defeated Brazil, 83-64, on Monday night, but the Brazilians earned their finals appearance with a 66-62 win over Canada. Undefeated, the Americans have outscored their four opponents by an average of 42 points per game.

Through the USA’s four games, Robinson has dished out 12 assists (3.0 apg.) while tallying only one turnover and has averaged 4.0 points (16 points) and 15.8 minutes per game. He leads the team in assist:turnover ratio (12:1).

Seven players reached double figures and all 12 Americans scored in Tuesday’s 107-72 semifinal victory over Argentina. Robinson scored five points, grabbed four rebounds and added two assists in 17 minutes.
