Robinson, Team USA Defeats Ivory Coast, 88-29

PRAGUE, Czech Republic—University of Pittsburgh freshman James Robinson (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha Catholic H.S.) and Team USA started the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship in winning fashion, defeating the Ivory Coast 88-29.

Robinson came off the bench to play 18 minutes and scored two points to go along with four rebounds and three assists for the Americans.

The United States dominated the post, outrebounding its opponents by 29 boards and scored 66 points in the paint. Team USA also shot 51 percent from the floor (38-75). Justice Winslow led the USA with a game-high 14 points with seven rebounds. Three other Americans reached double-figure scoring.

Ivory Coast struggled all evening against Team USA’s defense, shooting only 18 percent (10-55) from the floor and committing 16 turnovers.

The United States team is back in action tomorrow when it faces China at the 02 Arena. China opened preliminary round play with a narrow victory over Russia, 61-59. Tipoff for the Team USA vs. China game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Prague time.
