PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Big East Conference announced league opponents and game sites for the 2012-13 University of Pittsburgh men's basketball season on Thursday.
For the sixth consecutive year, Pitt will play an 18-game Big East regular season schedule and will face each of the 14 possible league opponents at least once. Additionally, Pitt will face four of those schools on two occasions. The decisions regarding opponents are based on natural interest, geography, rivalries, television contractual obligations and competitive balance. All regular season conference games will be televised, either by CBS Sports, the ESPN family of networks or ESPN Regional Television.
Pitt will play nine home games and nine away contests during league regular season competition. Home opponents at the Petersen Events Center will include Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Marquette, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, USF, Syracuse and Villanova.
The Panthers' 2012-13 road opponents are Cincinnati, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Providence, Rutgers, St. John's and Villanova.
Pitt's four repeat opponents will be Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette and Villanova.
The Big East Championship is scheduled for March 12-16 at Madison Square Garden.
The 75th annual NCAA Tournament Second and Third Round games are scheduled for March 21-24. Second and Third Round sites include: Auburn Hills, Mich., Lexington, Ky., Salt Lake City, Utah, San Jose, Calif., Austin, Texas, Dayton, Ohio, Kansas City, Mo. and Philadelphia, Pa. NCAA Regionals will be played from March 28-31 at four sites including Los Angeles, Calif., Washington, D.C., Arlington, Texas and Indianapolis, Ind. The 2013 Final Four is scheduled for April 6-8 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Pitt's entire 2012-13 men's basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
Pitt returns three starters, seven of its top nine scorers and seven of its top nine letterwinners. In addition, the Panthers welcome a top-10 ranked recruiting class.
