PITTSBURGH--ESPN announced this morning that the Pitt Basketball team will host Duke as part of its "Big Monday" national broadcast schedule on Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt's entire 2013-14 men's basketball schedule, tipoff times and television appearances will be released later this month.
Pitt Basketball has been a permanent fixture on ESPN's "Big Monday" broadcasts as the Panthers have made 26 appearances since the 2002-03 season. In 2013-14, eight ACC men's basketball games will be televised on ESPN's "Big Monday" package.
Pitt will face Duke for the first time since the Panthers' Levance Fields hit a jumper in overtime to defeat the Blue Devils, 65-64, on Dec. 20, 2007 at Madison Square Garden. The two schools have split the previous 12 meetings. It is a series that has featured some of Pitt's all-time most memorable plays and performances including Don Hennon's school-record setting 45-point outing on Dec. 21, 1957, Sam Clancy's steal and game-winning layup on Feb. 10, 1979 and Fields' clutch shot in the closing seconds.
Previously, Pitt has announced portions of its non conference schedule including two road trips to the New York City area. The Panthers will play Cincinnati as part of the 2013 Jimmy V Classic doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 17 at New York's Madison Square Garden (7 p.m. ET). The Pitt-Cincinnati contest will be followed by a Florida-Memphis matchup at 9 p.m. ET. Panther Club members and season ticketholders can request tickets for the Jimmy V Classic by calling the Panthers Ticket Office at (412) 648-7488.
Pitt will also compete in the 2013 Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., November 25-26. The Panthers are scheduled to face Texas Tech on Monday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Pitt will then play either Stanford or Houston in the Tuesday, Nov. 26 matchup at either 7 or 9 p.m. Panther Club members and season ticketholders can request tickets for the two Legends Classic games in New York by calling the Panthers Ticket Office at (412) 648-7488. Tickets can also be purchased online via Ticketmaster by visiting www.barclayscenter.com or www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.
In addition, Pitt will host Penn State on Tuesday, Dec. 3 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, along with Howard (Nov. 17) and Lehigh (Nov. 20 on ESPNU) as part of its Legends Classic schedule.
Pitt will begin its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule in January. The Panthers' 2013-14 ACC opponents were released in late April. Pitt will play nine home ACC games at the Petersen Events Center including Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Syracuse. The Panthers' 2013-14 road opponents are Clemson, Boston College, Maryland, Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Syracuse. Pitt's four repeat opponents are: Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina State and Syracuse.
If you are a Pitt season ticketholder and have not yet completed your 2013-2014 Men's Basketball Request Application, make sure you do so prior to August 14th, 2013. You can complete your application online at www.pittsburghpanthers.com/tickets or by calling 1-800-643-(PITT)7488.
The Panthers return three starters from a team that finished 24-9 overall and advanced to their 11th NCAA Tournament in the last 12 seasons.
