Pitt Announces Entire 2013-14 Basketball Schedule

PITTSBURGH--Pitt's inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference will feature home games against Duke, Syracuse and Penn State as the University of Pittsburgh released its entire 31-game 2013-14 men's basketball schedule on Thursday. As of Thursday, Pitt is slated to play 16 games on national television. Additional national, ESPN Regional, ACC Network and local television games will be announced at a later date.

Pitt will begin its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule in January. Pitt will play an 18-game ACC regular season schedule and will face each of the 14 possible league opponents at least once. Pitt will play nine home games, nine away contests and face four of those schools two times apiece (Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina State and Syracuse).

Home opponents at the Petersen Events Center include Clemson (Jan. 21), Duke (Jan. 27), Florida State (Feb. 23), Maryland (Jan. 6), North Carolina State (March 3), Syracuse (Feb. 12), Virginia (Feb. 2), Virginia Tech (Feb. 8) and Wake Forest (Jan. 11). The Panthers' 2013-14 ACC road opponents are: Boston College (Feb. 26), Clemson (March 8), Georgia Tech (Jan. 14), Maryland (Jan. 25), Miami (Feb. 5), North Carolina (Feb. 15), North Carolina State (Jan. 4), Notre Dame (March 1) and Syracuse (Jan. 18).

"Our first season in the ACC will provide our fans and supporters with an exciting schedule," Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said. "I'm also excited about our non-conference side as we have put ourselves in a position, once again, to have one of the toughest overall schedules in the country. Our outstanding fans will sell out the Petersen Events Center for the 12th consecutive season and continue to give us one of the nation's top homecourt atmospheres in all of college basketball."


 

 

The 61st annual Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament is scheduled for March 12-16 at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum. The 2014 NCAA Tournament begins March 20-23.

Two road trips to New York City and nine Petersen Events Center contests highlight Pitt's 13-game non-conference basketball schedule. Pitt will play Cincinnati as part of the 2013 Jimmy V Classic scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 17 at New York's Madison Square Garden (7 p.m. ET). The Pitt-Cincinnati contest is part of a doubleheader that will be followed by a Florida-Memphis matchup at 9 p.m. ET. Pitt will also compete in the 2013 Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., Nov. 25-26. Pitt is scheduled to play Texas Tech on Monday, Nov. 25 on ESPN2 (7:30 p.m.). Pitt will face either Stanford or Houston in the Tuesday, Nov. 26 consolation or championship matchup (7 or 9 p.m.). Tipoff times will be announced at a later date. Pitt will open its regular season on Friday, Nov. 8 when it hosts Savannah State at the Petersen Events Center. Including its season opener, Pitt will host nine non-conference games at the Petersen Events Center: Fresno State (Nov. 12), Howard (Legends Classic, Nov. 17), Lehigh (Legends Classic, Nov. 20), Penn State (Big Ten/ACC Challenge, Dec. 3), Loyola Marymount (Dec. 6), Youngstown State (Dec. 14), Cal-Poly (Dec. 21) and Albany (Dec. 31). Additionally, Pitt will host exhibition games against UC-San Diego (Oct. 25) and Slippery Rock (Nov. 1).

The annual City Game against Duquesne at Consol Energy Center is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30. City Game tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster. Panther Club members and season ticketholders will receive an e-mail detailing the presale times and codes.

The Panthers return three starters from a team that finished 24-9 overall and advanced to their 11th NCAA Tournament in the last 12 seasons.
