Indiana, Pa. is coached by former Pitt assistant Joe Lombardi, who served under Jamie Dixon for three years (2003-06). Last year, Lombardi led Indiana, Pa. to the NCAA Division II national championship game where it dropped a 65-53 decision to Cal State Pomona. The Crimson Hawks finished 33-3 overall and captured both the Atlantic Region and PSAC titles (13-1 league record).

The Crimson Hawks enter the 2010-11 season ranked No. 4 nationally in NCAA Division II, No. 6 by The Sporting News and are the preseason favorites to win the PSAC West title. IUP returns three starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's squad led by preseason all-conference players Darryl Webb and Julian Sanders. An All-American, Webb also earned Atlantic Region MVP and Elite Eight all-tournament honors while averaging 15.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Sanders led the Crimson Hawks in 3-point shooting. Starting guards Ashton Smith and Kevin Stewart also return to the squad.

Pitt will enter its season ranked among the nation's top-5 teams in at least one poll for the fifth time in school history. In preseason polls, Pitt is ranked No. 4 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll and No. 5 in the Associated Press poll. Pitt was also picked as the preseason favorite to win the Big East title.

Pitt enters Thursday's matchup after having won 23 consecutive exhibition games. Head Coach Jamie Dixon is a perfect 15-0 in exhibition games since he became head coach in 2003. Pitt owns a perfect 11-0 all-time record vs. Indiana, Pa. including the previous regular season matchup on Nov. 22, 2008, an 86-60 Pitt win. This is the third exhibition matchup between the two schools since 2005. Pitt claimed a 74-55 win on Nov. 13, 2005 and an 83-31 victory on Nov. 4, 2007.

Pitt will be without starting forward Nasir Robinson, who underwent surgery on his right knee Wednesday morning. He is expected to be sidelined for three-to-six weeks. Gilbert Brown is listed as questionable for the game.
